aflo:
did you guys know tumblr live has leaderboards.
this is uncanny it’s like a different website entirely
yeah, id say this post is worth 13 million diamonds
Ok I did the math. According to their “sunshine week” promotion, they were giving away 5000 dollars worth of diamonds. These were the diamond amounts:
If you add that up and divide the 5000 by the 2,000,000, you get .0025 cents. Therefore this guy has made 33,172 dollars. The second biggest earner on the leaderboard is ch3rry-bobomb. This is fucking insane
I joined a random woman’s live and met tommiethegun and ch3rry-bobomb completely by random, and they’re actually married. I didn’t ask WHY people gave them money because that would be rude but they did confirm my math for me. Basically how this works is you buy virtual gifts to send to these streamers, which you can only do if you have coins. To get coins, you have to pay at least 4.99 for 500 coins, up to 99.99 for 14,500 coins. The most expensive gift is a dragon (which they told me to gift them), which is 100,000 coins (or 700 dollars). When a streamer gets these expensive gifts, every .0025 cents gets converted into a diamond. When they reach 40,000 diamonds, they can cash out 100 dollars. Everyone in the live was insanely drunk when I joined and were aged around 35-45, one of them was a single mom, as I mentioned tommiethegun and ch3rry-bobomb are together and were in the same room livestreaming. I didn’t get to ask what platform they were using before the streamer blocked me for asking too many questions without giving money.
I want to stress that tumblr has absolutely no advertisement of these conversions at all, to the point where I’m not even sure if you could cash out diamonds through this app. I went to Tumblr Live terms and conditions and there was basically nothing about the value of a diamond except that it was determined by “TMG Apps” and was subject to any changes they wish to make. It’s clear that this is a third-party service… somewhere, that’s partnered with tumblr for God knows what reason. It’s incredibly shady and the entire live felt like I was in a bar in a town I’d never gone to before right before closing. Ch3rry-bomb jaunted and jeered at me for asking questions, there was one guy who was nice enough to explain everything I asked and he even mentioned that he never cashes out and instead uses his diamonds to convert back into coins so that he can send other streamers gifts. I’m really not sure what tumblr was thinking partnering with whatever service this is and I doubt this is making them any money.
Last reblog (sorry raine), but if this is tumblr’s own service and they’re making money off people buying coins, they’re directly copying TikTok’s livestream model and it just further drives home how soullessly homogenous the internet is becoming in hopes of getting as much of your money as possible. To be clear you get absolutely nothing for sending these people gifts except them saying “Thanks for the gift”—they acknowledge your comments even if you don’t gift, because there aren’t many flying by the screen because I don’t think many people are actually present (on TikTok this isn’t the case). The graphics for Tumblr Live don’t even look like regular tumblr graphics, they look straight up stolen from another app. And… that’s because they are. It’s the app MeetMe.
This is exactly what Tumblr Live looks like, down to a T. MeetMe is, according to the reviews on the App Store, full of scammers, porn bots, and fake accounts. It’s an incredibly, incredibly shady app that only has the 4.3 stars rating because of obviously fake reviews. I don’t even really know what to say about this except… uh… this sucks. Edit: it’s the same as Kik Live, Tumblr Live, and Plenty of Fish apparently
My gf is a popular artist on twitter and it’s so funny to see the reply guys on her account go wild when she mentions me. Sorry chad, the barely holding it together guy gets the girl at the end
Castration would solve a lot of the worlds issues but we aren’t quite ready for that conversation yet
